Dr. Valerie Gunn
Originally
from New Zealand, Dr. Gunn obtained a Diploma in Optometry
from the University of Auckland, N.Z. (1977)
and obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University
of Houston, Texas (1981). She has been practicing optometry
for over twenty years in British Columbia, first as a clinician
in an ophthalmology office, and later at her own optometry
practice in downtown Vancouver.
When Dr. Gunn first moved
to Vancouver Island, she worked part-time, while remaining
a full-time mom to her son. She
joined VisionArts on a permanent basis in May 2000. She
has a wealth of experience in all aspects of optometry, but
she
is especially interested in pediatric and geriatric vision,
vision therapy, and the fitting of bifocal contact lenses.
Dr Gunn is also particularly interested in health issues
and in making sure that her patients have correct information
about their health care needs.
Dr. Gunn takes an active
interest in community events and several service organizations.
When not working in an optometric
office, she is probably meeting with the Women’s Business
Network or with the Canadian Federation of University Women,
cruising the Gulf Islands on a sailboat, or simply enjoying
doing arts and crafts with husband Guy and son Remi.
