FYi Doctors

The doctors of VisionArts made a bold strategic move on April 1, 2008, joining our practice with 20 of the most progressive practices from across the country. This new group is known as FYi Doctors, and to learn more about what FYi is doing, click here. Together, we have opened North America's premier optical laboratory, Eyence Lab. We have many reasons for doing this, but the prime reason is to expand the range of products we offer. A few highlights are listed below.

Lenses: We now offer a full range of "Free form" progressive lenses. Free form is a completely new way of making progressive lenses with a digital precision that takes into account not only your prescription, but the size and shape of the frame, and how the lens will be positioned relative your eye. Think of the change from regular television to high definition TV. More pixels means higher resolution and a better image. The same is now true with progressive lenses (no-line bifocals), far better resolution and image quality, with less adaptation.

Anti-reflection coatings, often called "anti-glare" coatings have improved dramatically. Our new lens treatment isn't really a coating at all, as it is impregnated within the matrix of the lens material, thereby becoming part of the lens itself. Our best coating is called "High-Def Plus" and is currently the hardest, toughest coating available in North America. The Bayer rating of hardness is twice that of previous coatings.

Contacts: The FYi group has been able to bring into Canada a wide selection of next generation contact lenses that are more breathable, and retain moisture better than what has been available in the past. This means better comfort and longer wear time for you. Regular contacts, astigmatism, and progressive options are all available in the new materials. Many people now have the option of wearing contacts overnight, for up to a month at a time! If you've had trouble with contact lens comfort in the past, now is a great time to give them another try.

Your Eye Health Exam: Along with our fellow FYi clinics, we are incredibly excited to now offer digital photographs of the inside of your eye. The technology is far beyond what has ever been offered before and gives our doctors another amazing tool to detect eye diseases as early as possible. This isn't a specialized test, or add-on that you will have to pay for - we will be using this technology on everyone as part of their annual, or bi-annual eye-health exam.
